This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic New & Growth Categories super squad; a team with huge expectations and a mandate to create genuine new value for Currys. You will be at the centre of everything new, bringing emerging markets to life for customers across our market-leading omnichannel platform.

We are looking for a strong commercial trader with a growth mindset, entrepreneurial spirit and the resilience to navigate a fast-changing, sometimes ambiguous environment. As a senior leader in the squad, you will go above and beyond to support those around you and help shape what this team becomes

Role overview:

As part of this role, you'll be responsible for:

  • Leading by example fostering an inclusive, collaborative and high-performance environment
  • Owning and delivering the Category strategy, establishing Currys as the retailer of choice in our highest-growth opportunity categories
  • Continuously identify new products, brands and market opportunities, making clear recommendations and building the business case for investment.
  • Building and managing all supplier relationships  negotiating cost pricing, terms, exclusivity, stock availability, promotional funding, and go-to-market budgets to maximise E2E Commercial margin
  • Developing a sourcing strategy as we launch into new areas of retail; leverage supplier roadmaps to plan ahead for emerging opportunities.
  • Working cross-functionally with Merchandise Planning and Finance to forecast accurately, track trading account income and ensure all supplier funding is claimed on time
  • Creating new frameworks and processes to accelerate speed-to-market as ranges, brands and categories expand
  • Embeding AI into our ways of working to make us faster, more efficient and help give us a competitive edge.

 

You will need:

  • Proven track record in a buying role within Electrical, FMCG, Fashion or Hard Goods retail, with experience managing and developing a commercial team
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to manage supplier relationships at varying levels of seniority
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills; comfortable reviewing data and translating it into clear commercial recommendations
  • Natural influencer with the confidence to present to and challenge senior stakeholders, and to steer the wider business behind a new category agenda
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with strong commercial acumen and the tenacity to land initiatives despite organisational complexity
  • Curious and adaptable; open to new ways of working including the use of AI-powered tools to improve commercial decision-making
  • Excellent planning, organisational and communication skills, with experience managing critical paths and working cross-functionally
  • Degree or equivalent in relevant field
  • Demonstrable experience in a buying or commercial role within the electricals or consumer technology sector.
