Role overview:

Engineering Lead
London
Currys London Campus at Waterloo
Permanent
Full Time
Grade 5

Currys is in the middle of one of the most ambitious AI and automation shifts in UK retail. We are rethinking how customers discover and buy technology, how stores operate, how supply chains move, and how colleagues do their best work. We’re reshaping how the business trades, plans and serves. The AI & Monetisation function is where the boldest bets get placed.

The squads you will lead our greenfield, built around a real business domain, and backed by senior sponsorship. You will own that domain end to end, set the roadmap with the stakeholders who run it, and ship products that move the numbers in the P&L.

These problems are genuinely hard: optimising stock availability, automating complex operating processes, putting useful AI into the hands of frontline colleagues, and monetising the audience and data we already have. You will be a change agent in a business moving fast and willing to back people who can move with it.

We're seeking an innovator to help build our next-generation AI-ready data platform, by establishing and scaling a high-performing analytics engineering function.

In this role, you'll draw upon analytics, AI, engineering, and architecture skills to empower stakeholders across the organisation with the data models they need.

This will range from enabling conventional BI through to cutting-edge agentic workflows, reshaping the core of our operations via a domain-driven model.

Role overview:

  • Design and evolve our data architecture, enabling domain-driven ownership and self-serve analytics capabilities across the organisation
  • Manage a team of onshore and offsite analytics engineers, providing mentorship, career development, and technical guidance while fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture
  • Help inform the vision and roadmap for our modern metrics stack, focusing on scalability, reliability, and governance, partnering with engineering and product teams to deliver these
  • Champion data quality initiatives, implementing validation frameworks and observability tools to ensure trustworthy analytics
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of data transformation code, ensuring efficiency, reproducibility, and documentation
  • Ruthlessly prioritise efforts, with a particular focus on improving efficiency and margin

What you'll bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or related fields
  • Proficiency with modern data transformation tools (dbt, Dataform, or similar)
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with at least one programming language, e.g. Python
  • Hands-on experience with cloud data platforms, e.g. Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery, etc.
  • Knowledge of data orchestration tools including Airflow, Dagster, Prefect, etc.
  • Appreciation of how GenAI tools can accelerate data modeling and provisioning
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications and data models
