We’re looking for a visionary Senior Buyer to take on a unique, high‑impact role: leading the creation, development, and launch of an entirely new brand within the small kitchen appliances market. This is far more than a traditional buying role,  it demands exceptional project management capability, cross‑functional leadership, and the ability to work seamlessly with agencies to define a compelling brand identity from the ground up.

 

You’ll partner closely with our Far East sourcing office to build the right product portfolio, ensuring we bring a cohesive, future‑proof range to market. As the architect of a long‑term strategic platform with the potential to expand well beyond small kitchen appliances, you will be responsible for galvanising teams across the business to deliver a complete customer proposition - including product, experience, and value‑adds such as extended warranties.

 

This role will be positioned within the commercial team in appliances where you will be centred in a fast-paced team. Our ambition in appliances is to create more unique reasons for customers to shop with Currys and this new role is central to that ambition.

 

Working closely with our internal teams the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Senior Buyer will focus on developing the brand, building a strong OEM range, creating strong OEM Go to market & promotional plans. The role will need to collaborate and work closely with the Senior Buyers across Appliances to ensure we drive incremental Sales and margin in the categories.

Role overview:

As part of this role, you'll be responsible for:

  • Leading this new project to create a new OEM brand
  • Writing up the project plan and responsible for providing stakeholder updates across the business to track progress & ensure we deliver on time
  • Working closely with brand teams and customer insight teams
  • Sourcing a new range of OEM appliances starting with small kitchen appliances (SKA) in year 1, working closely to a brief from the SKA Senior Buyer
  • Negotiating product ranges: cost pricing, additional terms
  • Pricing the product range in line with agreed category CPI targets, and creating annual promotional plans to optimise volume, market share, net profitability.
  • Working with the returns team to ensure the right returns policy and warranty agreements are in place
  • Working with merchandising team to ensure forecasts are reviewed to maintain optimum levels of stock health & availability
  • Ensuring supplier contracts are completed in line with the company framework and pre-determined annual timetable
  • Collaborating with the Go to Market and categories teams
  • Managing, coaching and developing direct reports to deliver category targets and to ensure compliance with the Commercial critical path and processes. 
  • Providing and regularly review team members’ objectives, priorities and performance via Personal Development Review and one to ones, supporting their professional and personal development.

 

You will need:

  • Substantial buying experience working within a FMCG/Fashion or Hard Goods fast paced retailer
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to manage all supplier partnerships at differing levels of seniority
  • Good judgment and strong decision-making skills to enable the right actions for the category
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills to review data and provide recommendations/actions plans to drive sales, profit and cash 
  • Good planning, organisational and multitasking skills 
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills, capable of presenting to senior stakeholders as well as working cross functionally to achieve the desired results 
  • Customer champion with excellent commercial awareness and understanding of customer needs 
  • Good working knowledge of SharePoint, Teams, Excel, Word and PowerPoint as well as MS Office workflow tools 
  • Experience of working to deadlines and managing critical paths
