A newly created position has been created to maximise the growth opportunity which exists to bring new Shark Ninja’s new product development to market and ensure that Currys are at the forefront of their innovation.  

The purpose of the Merchandising planning function is to ensure all key category squad metrics are on track to budget.  The Category Merchandiser is responsible for highlighting to the category squad where any of these key metrics such as sales, margin, stock health or availability are at risk and what needs to be done to course correct and get back to plan 
 
The Category Merchandiser will work with the Category Squad to deliver the Category performance and achieve the annual sales, margin, stock and availability budget set by the Head of Category and the Head of Category Merchandising for the category squad that they operate within. 

 

Working with a large number off functions internally such as Distribution, Space Planning, Central Forecast, Central Planning and the Category squad – Buying & Go To Market Teams as well as externally all the Suppliers Logistics teams to ensure we get the stock required into our business to support the range, availability, sales and margin plan. You will work as part of the squad to deliver the category strategy and range plans. 
 

 

Role overview:

 

As part of this role, you'll be responsible for:

  • Working alongside the Senior Merchandiser to help drive the performance of their categories, help set and agree the Category Strategy and range plans, monitoring Commercial performance and ensure retained profit is in line with expectation and budget, whilst managing up to 2 Assistant Merchandisers
  • Ensuring sales, margin, stock and availability are on track to plan and highlighting to the category squads what needs to be done to course correct and get back to plan 
  • Ensuring the right stock is available in the right place for our customers 
  • Managing the weekly OTB for areas of responsibility and ensure the planners are ordering stock within these set budget parameters
  • Controlling the product selection critical path to ensure ranges are selected in line with product and supplier lead times to achieve range launch/promotional deadlines 
  • Closely monitor the promotions and events performance against plan for all key KPI’s 
  • Closely monitor the SKU sourcing and challenge where necessary to ensure effective rate of sale and ROI 
  • Updating weekly from squad consensus on 8 week outlook on sales, margin and stock ensuring the central planning team can roll up the latest view highlighting any concerns or changes to current plan and budget 
  • Driving the supplier strategies and optimise performance/ supply and stock holding
  • Ensuring the teams are ordering and building our OEM containers in the most efficient way, challenging MOQ's and not building excess stock

 

You will need:

  • Strong numerical and analytical skills to review data and provide recommendations/actions / plans to drive sales, profit and cash 
  • Good negotiation and influencing skills  
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills, capable of presenting with Team forums as well as working cross functionally to achieve the desired results 
  • Excellent commercial awareness and appreciation of customer needs 
  • Good knowledge of MS Office, in particular Excel  
  • Ability to use data and evaluations to recommend commercial decisions 
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills to ensure the business has the right stock and availability. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to ensure that the team and cross functional departments are aligned to successful delivery 
  • Strong attention to detail
