Senior Media Relations Manager

We’re now looking for a senior external communications manager to build enduring relationships and engage purposefully with agreed external stakeholder groups so they are also inspired by how we are creating value for colleagues, customers, society and the planet.
You’ll be responsible for managing all aspects of External Corporate Communications including media and digital engagement, communications planning, and issues and reputation management. You’re skilled at bringing our strategy and vision to life across a multitude of external stakeholders.

 

Role overview:

Key Role Responsibilities: 

  • Supporting the management of our External Communications strategy and programme. Raising our profile as the leader in technology retail, a company with purpose that has a positive impact on its colleagues, customers and other stakeholders
  • Support the delivery of Currys financial calendar media moments and investor events 
    Working with the business to promote and defend priority areas including but not limited to 
  • Services including Credit, Currys Business, Supply Chain, and our employer brand through the media, trade publications, conferences, awards, as well as owned and shared media opportunities 
  • Responsible for supporting the development of strategic communications plans and campaigns, aligned with our overall vision and strategy
  • Generating proactive positive coverage in relevant media and ensuring difficult journalist enquiries are well managed
  • Regular interaction with media (business, retail, financial, tech) that write about Currys
  • Fiercely guarding our reputation; identifying, anticipating, and handling media issues
  • Writing and editing communications materials including press releases, Q&A, strategy advisory notes etc.
  • Ensuring our social media strategy and digital content remains relevant and aligned to the broader business’s needs
  • Overseeing and maintaining a robust media and social media measurement programme, generating analytical monthly reports for the Executive Committee and Board

 

Key Skills, & Experience 

  • Excellent planning and project management skills 
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating media strategies, and creating effective communications to generate media coverage is essential. 
  • Exceptional communication skills are also essential, as is a strong current network of UK business / tech / financial editors, reporters and wider stakeholders. Up-to-date knowledge of the UK media landscape is also crucial. 
  • Proven media relations experience within a large organisation, in-house Retail or FMCG sector experience desirable but not 
  • Expertise in developing external communications plans aligning internal, external and stakeholder communications against business strategy
  • Track record of successfully managing communications during times of crisis and experience of counselling executives in crisis situations
  • Outstanding media relations skills and relationships, with experience engaging journalists on a regular basis 
  • Knowledge of and ability to influence other key external stakeholders 
  • Proven ability to think strategically, engage proactively and take initiative
  • Strong networker with a confident and collaborative approach
  • Experience of working with and managing external agencies
